My Teething Baby
Now this is what you call a teething baby and it’s not fun for Kenzie or myself. She has been since she was 3 months old; I thought she was going to get her first tooth early but we are still waiting. Most babies pop their first tooth between 4 and 7 months so it could still be a while; Kenzie will be 6 months next week. She’s been a little fussy which is unlike her because she has been such a calm, easy baby. And she is drooling all over the place. My shirts get wet patches all over them. Between the spit up and drool it’s senseless to keep changing my tops (lol); it just means more laundry for me; no thanks. Feedings never used to be an issue but now on occasion she wants nothing to do with it and will wait hours to take her bottle. I know she’s hungry but her gums are really bothering her. The combination of hunger and pain for an infantis really not my idea of a fun time.
Nothing is off limits to her, if she can grab it and get it to her mouth it’s game. She’s going after everything and anything even me – hands, shoulders, chin – you name it. I’ve tried just about every product out there for her but it seems they aren’t helping too much.
Teethers are O.K. once they can hold them. Now that her hands are a little stronger and bigger she is able to hold some of hers better. As of lately, she has taken to the ones you put in the freezer which is a good thing. They are a must have.
I’ve given her Infant Tylenol but it takes a while to kick in, and even then I’m not sure it’s helping. Maybe I should try something other than Tylenol. What do you find works best for your baby?
I’m not too fond of Baby Orajel either. She makes the funniest face when i apply it to her gums and her eyes tear up a little. I think she swallows a little of it and it numbs her throat, and the Orajel Q-Tip she tries to eat. There is definitely a temporary relief but very temporary.
Then there’s the Humphrey’s Very Cherry Teething Pellets i recently tried, have you tried these? Your supposed to dissolve them in water and then rub their gums with it. How much of it is actually getting on their gums if you just dab your finger in it? It has to be a very small amount, obviously not enough for my Kenzie; they don’t even phase her but they smell tasty.
I will say that regardless of whether i apply any pain reliever to her gums or not, she loves when i massage them for her. Although, she’s beginning to gnaw harder and once those teeth come in I’m not sure how well that will work for me.
What do you do to help your baby?
